Mission Hills – Hillcrest

The route from Old Town to Hillcrest passes through the historic neighborhood of Mission Hills. This architecturally impressive neighborhood is filled with historic Spanish Revival, Craftsman, and Prairie-style homes. Locals know that Mission Hills Nursery was founded in 1910 by famous philanthropist Kate Sessions. Goldfinch Street is a hotspot lined with with popular eateries. Continuing east on University Avenue leads you into the Hillcrest neighborhood.

Hillcrest is famous for being one of San Diego’s most diverse and welcoming communities. Packed with restaurants and shops, the neighborhood is very walkable. The Hillcrest Farmers Market is one of the city’s largest and has been growing for many years. Hillcrest was one of the first neighborhoods in San Diego to experience gentrification. The Craftsman homes and mid-century condominium buildings have drawn people to the area for decades. South of Hillcrest is Balboa Park and the World Famous San Diego Zoo.
